bye and thanks for all the tacos
A little over one year ago, I was brought on as a core Arch developer after being a community member for a few years. While I have greatly enjoyed my time as an Arch dev, I have decided it is time for a change. It is time for me to move on.
I had quite a bit of fun, and learned a good deal during my tenure as an Arch dev. I worked mostly with the infrastructure, web development, and other sys- admin type things. There are some unique challenges to managing an infrastructure for a large open source project. It is a testament to the Arch team that there are so few noticeable issues.
During my time in Arch devland, I was involved in a few things that I felt were worthwhile projects/endeavors:
- Migration of the wiki from a broken phpwiki install to mediawiki. This was actually before I was a dev, but it was a significant undertaking requiring the coordination of quite a few people.
- Backend server optimizations and tuning (mysql, bind, apache, caching, etc).
- Refactor and revamp of the django based main Arch site.
- Split off the developer interface from the main site, to provide more flexibility and customization without interrupting the public facing site.
- Many upgrades/updates to the various provided services.
- Downtime messages (omg! bags are falling!).
- Helping new Arch developers and contributors become situated.
- Helping community members.
- Monitoring the server for general goofiness.
- Removing unused services, and cleaning up some legacy cruft.
- I put in some work on the AUR codebase, adding the aurJSON simple query interface, and some other fixes (the retheme to the new Arch site theme springs to mind).
I wish the rest of the Arch development team continued success. I had alot of fun along the way. Keep up the great work guys.
Bye, and thanks for all the tacos.
