evolution email client
Every once in a while, I try the regular round of email clients, to see if any of them are more usable than they were last time.. To see if I want to start using them instead.
Every time I use evolution, I find one thing irritates me more than anything else. The inability to force incoming email to be read as plain text.
Evolution will only render it as html. Yes, you can view the source, but I want an option for a somewhat intelligent stripping of html by default. This means.. I check a box, and get no more html email rendering presented to me.
Thunderbird does this. This is one reason why I still use it.
The second most irritating thing? I hate the message pane. I always remove it. If I want to read an email, I will click on it, and open it up. Few things are so obnoxious as deleting an email, and having the next one in my mail list..open automatically into the message page. So..I disable that.
Here is my gripe. When I click to open an email, and finish reading it, generally I then click the delete mail button. Guess what happens next? It opens the next email! This is not what I want! I want to go back to where I was before. I want the mail deleted, and that is it.
I found a way around this in firefox, with a plugin that somebody wrote. The plugin allows the addition of a "Delete!" button in the mail reading window. Click that, and it sends you back to the folder where you were. No more opening of the next email automatically.
I tried sylpheed a while back, and it was almost good enough to make me switch from t-bird. It might be time to try it again, and see how far along the development of it has come.
